Walking with the Saints: A Pilgrimage for Mary
Modern Catholic Pilgrim and the Center for Catholic Studies at the University of St. Thomas celebrate the month of May and offer it to Mary with a walking pilgrimage from Sitzmann Hall to the Basilica of St. Mary (co-Cathedral of the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis).
Put on your walking shoes, gather your intentions, and prepare to walk in community with fellow faithful in one of the oldest prayer traditions of the Church.
Who: All are welcome. All youth (under the age of 18) must be accompanied by an adult.
What: A 7-mile walking pilgrimage
Where: From Sitzmann Hall (Center for Catholic Studies) at the University of St. Thomas (2055 Summit Ave, Saint Paul) to the Basilica of St. Mary (1600 Hennepin Ave, Minneapolis)
Why: To carry our intentions to the Blessed Mother in her month of May
When: Saturday, May 4. Optional Daily Mass in Albertus Magnus Chapel at 7:15 AM. Pilgrimage officially begins with opening prayers in the Marian garden behind Sitzmann at 8 AM. We will walk up the river, across the Mississippi River, and down Hennepin to reach our destination and around 11:15 AM. After closing in prayer and offering up intentions, all are invited to join for casual lunch and fellowship at Buca di Beppo (8 minute walk from the Basilica).
How: In the interest of simplicity and keeping this a regular, free opportunity for embodied prayer and fellowship, transportation is not provided for this pilgrimage.
We recommend: (a) arranging with someone else to drop you off and/or pick you up on either end; (b) recruiting a friend to join you and dropping one car at the end before 8, then driving together to the start; (c) being prepared to ride share or take public transportation back to the start; or (d) walking back(!).
